In a blog post titled "We've been hacked," Zendesk explains that a hacker has accessed their systems and probably downloaded user info from Twitter, Tumblr and Pinterest users. Do you follow a brand in social media? Are you glad you did? If that's the case, they are either doing one of three things: Connecting with one of your passions and/or interests. If you're a small business owner, you may want to consider which of the three strategies you're following. You might also mull following one of the strategies exclusively. MediSafe App Makes Sure You Take Your Pills on Time Posted: 21 Feb 2013 08:50 PM PST Keeping up with when to take different medicines can be a chore, especially if you need to take something at the same time everyday. Enter MediSafe, a virtual pillbox that can remind you to take medicines at the right time. If you're responsible for someone -– for instance a child or elderly parent -– then you can also track their medications. The app launched just a few months ago, and reports that users are taking pills on time 81% of the time. That's 31% higher than the World Health Organization's estimated average medication adherence rate of 50%. Part of its success comes in its reminder functionality, but accountability plays a huge role as well. If your spouse, f… More About: App, medical care |
Bubble Bursting in Extra Slow Motion Is Incredible Posted: 21 Feb 2013 08:33 PM PST Bubbles -- they're a staple of every childhood (and some adulthoods), but they're so short lived, seeming to disappear as soon as they appear. You swish all that watery goodness around and wait for that magic wand to do its work but, alas, the bubbles are gone in microseconds, popping right before your eyes, leaving you wet and soapy, never having had the chance to say goodbye. SEE ALSO: Watch Water Balloons Smash Into a Shirtless Dude in Slow Mo Thanks to the SlowMoGuys, though, we can now see the stages of the bubble as it grows and then sadly bursts -- slowed down by 700 times. 2014 World Cup Will Be First to Use Goal-Line Technology Posted: 21 Feb 2013 07:27 PM PST FIFA, soccer's global governing body, confirmed this week that goal-line technology will be used at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. That will mark the first time the planet's biggest single-sport event uses the high-tech method of determining whether or not the ball crosses the plane of the goal. Goal-line technology was used at the Club World Cup in December and will be used again at this summer's Confederations Cup -- a World Cup preview of sorts held in the big event's host nation one year before the World Cup. High profile soccer matches have been beset by a number of did-he-or-didn't-he scoring controversies over the years. Judging controversial goals in soccer is especially d… |
Man Faces 18 Months in Jail for Twitter Parody Posted: 21 Feb 2013 07:10 PM PST A man in Chile is facing 18 months in jail after a businessman accused him of identity theft over Twitter parody accounts. Rodrigo Ferrari Prieto is accused of being behind three now inactive accounts that mocked Chilean business mogul Andrónico Luksic and his family, according to Global Voices. Luksic's lawyer said tweets were posted under Luksic's name, along with personal photos and "inappropriate comments" that damaged his client's reputation. Ferrari Prieto claimed he was behind only one of the three accounts, which used an avatar of money falling and a description that read "we have tons of money." He said account was a joke and should not be considered a crime. Twit… More About: chile, crime, lawsuit, parody, Twitter |
Here’s Who Needs a Chromebook Pixel Posted: 21 Feb 2013 06:50 PM PST The tech pundit jury has apparently reached a solemn, sober verdict on the Chromebook Pixel laptop Google launched Thursday. And the verdict is ... "Oh my God, look at the sticker price!" (Tech pundits faint with shock.) This rush to judgment, most of it without so much as seeing the device, is a great pity. I've been using the Pixel all day, and it's one of the most gorgeous pieces of hardware I've picked up in a while. The Pixel is a pleasure to use, with a screen that's just as eye-poppingly beautiful as a Macbook Retina -- except you can navigate it by touch like a retina-display iPad. (And if you don't want to touch the screen, the giant glass trackpad on the k… More About: chromebook, Google, LTE |

Digital Harassment Linked With Physical Abuse Among Dating Teens Posted: 21 Feb 2013 03:37 PM PST Social networks, smartphones and other connective technologies allow teens to stay in touch all hours of the day -- but they also give way for new methods of abuse. Sony took the time to trot out several different companies to showcase what each had been working on in secret for the console. The PlayStation hardware will be powerful enough to run beautiful games; that was one thing made clear from the presentation. The system's powerful x86 processor and 8 gigs of memory should lead to some splendid graphics and simulation. Epic Games showed off its Unreal 4 engine for the PlayStation 4. Google Chromebook Pixel Is an Expensive Gamble Posted: 21 Feb 2013 01:21 PM PST The rumors were true. Google's Chromebook is going upscale. The search giant and OS upstart unveiled its first high-resolution touchscreen laptop on Thursday, the Pixel, and turned the Chrome OS and Chromebook from an entry-level platform for cash-starved netizens into a powerful tool for cloud-friendly business people. It's a big bet and one has to wonder, can the Chrome OS survive at this altitude?
