Viral Video of Russian Plane Crash Captured on Dashboard Camera

Posted: 30 Dec 2012 12:58 PM PST

A video of what is reportedly the Russian plane crash that killed five people in Moscow Saturday, has surfaced on YouTube.

In the 30-second video, captured on a dashboard camera, two cars are hit by debris from the airliner after it slams into a highway. One of the vehicles is struck by what looks like the front landing gear, as the other car careens across the highway and over what appears to be a row of seats.

The deadly crash occurred moments after takeoff with just the crew onboard, killing five and leaving one in critical condition. We have not been able to confirm the authenticity of the video at this time. Watch it, above, and let us know your thoughts in the comments below…

Foursquare Updates Privacy Policy to Display Full Names

Posted: 30 Dec 2012 10:57 AM PST

Foursquare sent out an email on Saturday detailing updates to its privacy policy and planned service changes that will take place in January.

Currently, usernames are displayed with full first names and an initial for surnames (e.g., Kenneth R.) on the location-based social network. Starting next year, however, profiles will display both full first and last names.

"We get emails every day saying that it's now confusing. So, with this change, full names are going to be public," the email said, adding that users can alter their full names under the "settings" tab.

What's more, companies will now be able to view a more detailed overview of visitors that have checked in throughout the…

7 Bad Moves That Hurt Facebook in 2012

Posted: 30 Dec 2012 09:57 AM PST

Mashable OP-ED

Facebook has made strides in 2012. A billion users and a smart new Timeline UI punctuate a banner year for the world's most important social network.

But 2012 also marks aggressive moves to expand and monetize -- some might say at the expense of user experience and community. At best, Team Facebook is making tough choices in a delicate balancing act. At worst, they are tone deaf to conscientious users.

While we're a far cry from mass exodus, there are only so many missteps to take before someone eats Facebook's lunch.

Here's what went wrong in 2012.

1. Personal Promoted Posts

In October, Facebook rolled out a curious feature called Personal Promoted Posts. Us…

Bicymple is Functional Minimalist Design on Wheels

Posted: 30 Dec 2012 08:56 AM PST

As if the chain and two-tire design of a traditional bicycle couldn't become more basic, a Kickstarter project is taking minimalist bicycle design to a new level of minimal.

Bicymple is like any ordinary bike: it has two wheels, handlebars and pedals. But what it doesn't have is a chain. Instead of the drive chain running from a sprocket in the rear to the crankset the pedals are directly mounted to the rear axle.

This allows the wheels to be closer and another modification lets the rear wheel move independently. This severely decreases the turn radius compared to a standard bike.

The campaign has raised $16,6…
