Facebook has cut off Path's ability to access its "Find Friends" function, according to a report.

Users of the social-network app, which let users share private updates with close friends and family, can no longer search for friends using Facebook, TechCrunch reported Saturday. Access was restricted after Path updated its smartphone app on Friday. However, the San Francisco-based company can still use Facebook as a login option, as well as share posts to Facebook.

TechCrunch speculates that Facebook blocked Path's "Find Friends" access because of a spamming mishap in which the app bombarded users' address book contacts with invites. Read more...

A meteor shower made from the dusty leftovers of the famed Halley's Comet will be at its best on May 5, and NASA doesn't want you to miss it.

The annual Eta Aquarid meteor shower will peak Sunday night and NASA scientists will provide live views of the celestial fireworks display in a webcast from the agency's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. The webcast and chat will run from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. EDT (0100 to 0700 May 6 GMT), NASA officials said.

You can watch the Eta Aquarid webcast live on SPACE.com, courtesy of NASA.

"This year the peak will occur on the night of May 5 about 9 p.m. EDT with meteor rates of about 30-40 meteors per hour near peak. Eta rates will also be good on the evening of May 4," NASA officials said in a statement. "The Etas contain quite a few fireballs. Ideal viewing conditions are clear skies away from city lights, especially just before dawn." Read more...

I find it fairly scary there are people using a dating site to find a lover who showers once a month, eats garbage, likes tortured animals and finds the threat of nuclear war exciting. These are just some of the answers to user-generated questions asked by OKCupid, a dating site and app with 5 million monthly users.

To be fair, the last time I dated, Facebook hadn’t been invented, much less most of today’s social networking dating apps. In my 20s, you met people — wait for it — in a bar. But I was still pretty shocked by some of OKCupid member’s queries. Once you read some of the below gems, I think you’ll probably want to run screaming to your nearest bar, too Read more...

According to an infographic by footwear retailer Brantano, the high-tech specs are just one example of electronic gadgets that double as sartorial statements. For your arms and legs, put on a Pebble smart watch and Apple's possibly forthcoming smart shoes. Finally, to complete your tech-friendly outfit, throw on Woven, an e-wearable gaming platform

Crowdfunding Puts Spark of Life in Tesla's Old Lab

The old, neglected lab of Nikola Tesla, arguably the closest real-world example of the archetype of the brilliant but eccentric scientist, has been purchased by a non-profit group, with the aim turning it into a museum and science learning center.

Tesla patented the logic gate (which makes modern computing possible) in 1898, and pioneered both the alternating current that ferries electricity over long distances and into our homes, and radio technology, which gives us not only Top 40 and talk, but also Wi-Fi.

On the darker side, he thought it was possible to control the weather, and attempted to build a particle beam weapon he said would be able to destroy fleets of airplanes from hundreds of miles away and "cause armies to drop dead in their tracks." Read more...

Hypersonic Aircraft Travels 260 Miles in 6 Minutes

Feed-twFeed-fb

A Boeing X-51A Waverider Scramjet flew five times the speed of sound before taking a planned nosedive into the Pacific Ocean this week

The launch was the fourth and final test flight in the U.S. Air Force's $300 million program. According to X-51A Program Manager Charlie Brink, it was a success

Powered by a solid rocket booster, the scramjet was released at 50,000 feet, and it only took 26 seconds to accelerate to Mach 4.8. At 60,000 feet, it hit Mach 5.1 after separating from the booster — that's 3,882 miles per hour, fast enough to fly from New York to London in 1 hour and 15 minutes.

However, this wasn't the fastest flight the Waverider has completed — the first Waverider test flight set that record — but this flight did set a world record for the longest air-breathing hypersonic flight: The flight recorders were running for 370 seconds. Read more...

As a physics teacher, going to CERN to see the Large Hadron Collider was a dream come true for Andrew Vanden Heuvel. Armed with Google Glass, Vanden Heuvel's trip was even more meaningful as he shared every step in real time with his students in Michigan

In February, Vanden Heuvel was one of the lucky few applicants selected to be a Google Glass Explorer, a program in which consumers and developers test Glass before it hits mainstream markets. Vanden Heuvel, who received his Glass just days before his trip to Geneva, Switzerland, said he quickly became acquainted with the device

"Oh wow, is that the Google gadget?" a woman exclaimed as she moved her hand between the doors, halting their closure.

"Yes, it is," I confirm, instinctively touching my right hand to the side of the device resting on my head. She comes into the elevator — even though she originally had no intention of leaving the floor — and asks questions excitedly, wondering if I'm filming video as she's talking (I'm not) and if I like it (I do). NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) caught the explosion on camera. But it’s not all doom and gloom — freelancing is often fulfilling work. Plenty of people freelance by choice. Some do it to supplement their existing income, and others do it because full-time work is simply hard to find. Creative types often choose this professional option because freelancing offers flexibility and the opportunity to showcase work in a variety of arenas. Freelancers can be anyone — artists, writers, graphic designers, lawyers, financial consultants, accountants, journalists — you name it, someone's probably done it via freelance. Read more...
