20 TV Shows With the Most Social Buzz This Week Posted: 03 Dec 2012 08:16 PM PST This week in television was all about singing, football and cartoons. Oh, and vampires and zombies. FOX's popular vocal competition The X Factor dominated the broadcast TV social rankings in predictable fashion, as it has virtually all season. This week it drew in more than 4.6 million mentions on social media, a slight improvement over last week's impressive score. NBC's talent search, The Voice, also finished high on the charts, but nowhere near The X Factor. Another FOX show, Glee, jumped to sixth place on the broadcast social chart, perhaps buoyed by this week's cover of Psy's YouTube viral hit "Gangnam Style." Fugitive McAfee Says He Forged Location Data in ‘Vice’ Photo Posted: 03 Dec 2012 04:16 PM PST The John McAfee escape saga just got a little weirder. A photo of the estranged antivirus guru, who is wanted for questioning in Belize, after his neighbor was found dead in a pool of blood on Nov. 10, appeared on the website of Vice magazine. Vice published the picture of McAfee and Editor-in-Chief Rocco Castoro, without stripping the metadata from the file, revealing the picture was taken in Guatemala. A Twitter user pointed out that the location was easily accessible by taking a look at the metadata of the picture published online, but subsequent reports seem to indicate that that location was forged. Experience the 2012 Mashable Media Summit on Storify Posted: 03 Dec 2012 03:47 PM PST The trends forecasted at Mashable's Media Summit can be summed up in three words: mobile, social and native. As digital media moves from the desktop to the mobile device, new media organizations are hard-pressed to keep up with the trends and to engage audiences in increasingly more innovative ways. Traditional organizations like NPR, Hearst Magazines and PBS spoke in the same forum as new-media trailblazers like Reddit, LinkedIn and Tumblr. Speakers discussed the challenges they face, including building a digital community while moving to monetize a brand. The event also asked how social media is influencing the world outside of the digital sphere, with one talk discussing how Twitt… More About: Media Summit 2012, mashable media summit, media summit |

The Elevator Zombie Prank From Hell Posted: 03 Dec 2012 03:28 PM PST Halloween has come and gone, but that doesn't mean you can't have some harmless (PARALYZINGLY TERRIFYING) fun with elevators and zombies. Brazilian variety show, Programa Silvio Santos set up unsuspecting elevator riders once again, by "accidentally" leaving a coffin inside the elevator car, and having a dead body fall out mid-ride. To make it even more uncontrollably fear-inducing, the corpse springs to life and chases them around in the elevator -- one that has momentarily broken down, sealing the doors shut. Writer Sued for his Twitter Followers Settles Case Posted: 03 Dec 2012 03:17 PM PST Remember the curious case of Noah Kravitz, the tech blogger who was sued by his former employer for his Twitter followers -- in a lawsuit that set the worth of a Twitter follower at $2.50 each? If so, you can stop being outraged about it. Kravitz and the former employer, tech site PhoneDog, have settled the case after a year and a half of tough mediation. And although no one is offering details about the settlement, it sounds like no money is changing hands for Twitter followers. PhoneDog, a mobile reviews site, currently has 27,000 followers on Twitter. When Kravitz left the site in October 2010, he took his @phonedog_noah account and turned it into @noahkravitz, which now has 23… More About: Twitter |

Jimmy Fallon Crowdsourcing Ford Super Bowl Ad on Twitter Posted: 03 Dec 2012 01:48 PM PST Ford has hired Jimmy Fallon to create a 60-second Super Bowl ad for its Lincoln brand based on script suggestions it is soliciting on Twitter. The attempt to reach out to a younger consumer comes as Lincoln has lost 63% of its sales since its 1990 peak. The effort to re-establish the brand began on Monday with a new ad that shows an actor playing Abraham Lincoln emerging from a fog. The ad then shows vintage Lincoln models along with images of Clark Gable and Dean Martin. The tie-in with the president comes as Stephen Spielberg's well-received Lincoln is playing in theaters. For the Super Bowl, the brand has launched SteertheScript, a crowdsourcing effort that lets fans co-autho… More About: Advertising, Super Bowl, Twitter, jimmy fallon |

Burberry Fetes Digital at Chicago Flagship Opening Posted: 03 Dec 2012 12:48 PM PST Few companies outside the tech industry have endeavored to brand themselves as "digitally forward" as Burberry. At the opening party for its Chicago flagship last week, the UK fashion house combined live performance with in and out-of-store projections to create what the company describes as "an immersive physical and digital experience." Like Burberry's recently unveiled Regent Street flagship in London, large screens have been installed in the Michigan Avenue store, functioning as digital content displays.
