With 25% of human-resources managers receiving 50 resumes per job listing, competition is fierce, according to an infographic developed by NowSourcing, an Internet-marketing services firm.

Called "The Anatomy of a Great Resume," it dissects the components of a first-class CV. The infographic encourages job-seekers to concisely summarize work experience, emphasize accomplishments and include key words such as "problem solving," "leadership" and team building." On the other hand, the infographic counsels against making spelling and grammatical errors.

Indeed, it says 77% of HR managers…

X-Wing Starfighter Is King of All Lego Stars Wars Merchandise

Posted: 16 Feb 2013 06:40 PM PST

Lego is one of those companies that constantly and consistently produces odds and ends that are worth purchasing. They're also notorious for supporting whatever's going on in popular culture with themed sets.

Case in point, the company has revealed that a new Star Wars X-wing starfighter set will be coming out in May. Rejoice!

Probably the only unfortunate part is the cost, but if you're a real enthusiast that shouldn't stop you, should it?

The set, officially titled 10240 -- Red Five X-wing Starfighter, will be available for $200. That's a nice sum of money to drop on a Lego creation, but it's not all that uncommon for the larger sets to go for over $100 at least. It does inc…

Polytron’s Transparent Smartphone May Be in Your Future

Posted: 16 Feb 2013 05:46 PM PST

If Polytron Technologies has its way, you'll barely be able to see your next smartphone.

The Taiwan-based manufacturer has released a futuristic-looking prototype for what it hopes will be the world's first transparent smartphone.

The product, which remains in its early stages, is made from Polytron's Polyvision Privacy Glass. The glass is opaque when powered off, but it appearance transforms when electricity is applied. According to Polytron's website, "the liquid crystal molecules line up, the incident light passes through, and Polyvision looks clear."

Technically, the glass design isn't completely see-through -- the batteries and SIM card remain visible, as does the power switch…

5 of the Best Games to Play This Weekend

Posted: 16 Feb 2013 01:47 PM PST

1. System Shock 2

Sometimes bad things happen to good games. System Shock 2, a space horror PC game, has been locked in weird copyright limbo for years, and is finally available for download on Good Old Games for $9.99. System Shock 2 was created by Ken Levine, and the BioShock series is considered its spiritual successor. The game has real scares, and also a compelling story that shouldn't be spoiled. While the late '90s graphics may be a little dated, this game is not worth missing for the first -- or 30th -- time.

If was certainly a huge week in tech -- so big we almost wished we had a Top 20 instead of a Top 10. Not only did we have our usual slew of gadgets and techno-news, we also had a big controversy around a certain electric car, a heart-warming 3D-printing story and a juicy (or not?) Apple rumor.

The big controversy of the week stemmed from a New York Times review of the electric Tesla Model S which criticized the car's battery performance. Elon Musk, Tesla's founder, not only didn't like it, but he revealed that he had the logs and data to prove the journalist lied. Controversy and a media frenzy ensued.

New Animation Shows What the Russian Meteor Really Did

Posted: 16 Feb 2013 11:07 AM PST

By now, you're probably familiar with the meteor that exploded in the earth's atmosphere on Friday. About 930 miles east of Moscow, in remote Chelyabinsk, a speeding space rock hurtled through the sky, injuring over 1,000 Russians (and frightening the rest of the world, once video was uploaded by eye witnesses). And the Russian meteor wasn't even the asteroid we were expecting.

But what, scientifically speaking, really happened? Scientists are beginning to piece together the details of the Russian meteor explosion, which they say was the biggest event since the Tunguska impact of 1908. That year, a 150-foot, 100,000-ton meteor exploded over Siberia, razing 800 square miles and 80 million…

Best Buy to Make Internet Price-Matching Policy Permanent

Posted: 16 Feb 2013 10:51 AM PST

If you're going to buy a thing -- any kind of thing, really -- Amazon tends to be the first thought if you're someone that uses the Internet. The old guard when it comes to retailers, like Best Buy or Target, are last on the list to be checked.

Showrooming, however, is more popular than ever. Checking stuff out in a physical store and then buying online is all the rage. In an effort to fight back against the beast that is online retail, Best Buy revealed that it's making its Internet price-matching policy permanent, but there's a catch: The company's only matching prices with certain retailers.

Best Buy is opening the floodgates the tiniest bit. It has a history of matching prices dur…

Russian Fireball Won’t Be Last Surprise Asteroid Attack

Posted: 16 Feb 2013 08:09 AM PST

The world will have to live with surprise asteroid attacks on the scale of Friday's Russian fireball, at least for a while.

The meteor that exploded over the Russian city of Chelyabinsk without warning Friday (Feb. 15), damaging hundreds of buildings and wounding more than 1,000 people, was caused by a space rock about 50 feet (15 meters) wide, researchers said.

Asteroids of this size are both difficult to detect and incredibly numerous, so it will take a long time for astronomers to find and map out the orbits of all the potentially dangerous ones. Besides, researchers have bigger fish to fry.

"Defending the Earth against tiny asteroids such as the one that passed over Siberia and…
