Amy Poehler Pranks Seth Meyers on Late Night Talk Show

Posted: 01 Mar 2013 02:57 PM PST

Comedy queen Amy Poehler just can't keep her hands off a good prank.

When her buddy and former Saturday Night Live costar Seth Meyers was on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live, Poehler took the questions-from-the-phone segment into her own hands.

She called in as someone from New Hampshire (Meyers' home state) and, in a disguised voice, asked him, "What's your favorite part about working with Amy Poehler?"

Meyers answered genuinely, making the prank that much more hilarious. But host Andy Cohen saw right through it all and busted her.

"Harlem Shake" meme videos keep piling up on YouTube, and today Homer Simpson and his animated companions on The Simpsons threw their rendition into the mix.

Fox will use the show's ever-changing opening segment on an upcoming episode to do the "Homer Shake," a colorful version of the viral phenomenon set to a Homer-ized cover of Baauer's 2012 single "Harlem Shake." Baauer's song is featured in the other versions of the meme.

Where would we be without Schoolhouse Rock? Unable to tell the difference between prepositions and adverbs, that's where.

Luckily those Saturday morning 'toons taught us the lessons of the world through whimsical little ditties that have remained with us to this day.

On the other side of the entertainment spectrum lies Star Wars. Another age-old classic packed to the brim with life lessons like "There is no try" (shout out to Yoda for that gem). So thank goodness some higher force has developed this mashup between two huge franchises, in what can only result in pure, unadulterated wisdom.

On Friday, the Museum of Modern Art in New York City invited visitors to its third floor to view its newly acquired collection of 14 video games. The games, which include beloved classics like Pac-Man, Tetris and Myst, as well as lesser-known titles like flOw and Dwarf Fortress, are part of an exhibit called "Applied Design," on view until next January.

Fourteen screens are set into the black walls of the gallery. Resting beneath most of those screens are controllers inviting visitors to sample games one at a time. For games that require a considerable time investment (say, more than 10 minutes) to get into the heart of gameplay, such as EVE Online or Sim City 2000, visual demos, captione…

Urbee 2 Is the 3D-Printed Car of the Future

Posted: 01 Mar 2013 01:42 PM PST

We've already seen all kinds of 3D-printed items, from jewelry, to guitars, and even football cleats. Now, we might soon have an almost entirely 3D-printed car in the Urbee 2.

The hybrid car, created by engineer Jim Kor, is designed to be light, cheap, easy to reproduce and very efficient. It's made entirely of 3D-printed plastic parts, all except the engine and base chassis, which are metal. It has three wheels and can carry two passengers.

Skydiver Pulls a Mary Poppins, Uses Umbrella for a Parachute

Posted: 01 Mar 2013 01:17 PM PST

Mary Poppins was a true role model for many of us: nannies, people who love big bags, those of us who enjoy spoonfuls of sugar and -- mainly -- skydivers.

Because, to those skydivers, Poppins was truly the only person to defy gravity with such style.

Extreme athlete Erik Roner paid homage to the original Supernanny by jumping out of a plane using an umbrella as his makeshift parachute. Granted, no one is as gangster as Mary, so Roner's umbrella broke midway down, forcing him to trigger his back-up parachute.

White House Totally Owns Obama’s ‘Jedi Mind Meld’ Mistake

Posted: 01 Mar 2013 01:04 PM PST

The White House's digital team is spending Friday afternoon trying its hardest to own President Barack Obama's sci-fi slip-up during a press conference earlier in the day.

Obama said during the conference that he can't perform a "Jedi mind meld" to get Republicans to agree to a sequester deal. Science fiction nerds across the country immediately blasted Obama for mixing his mind-meld metaphors: Jedi are peaceful protectors of the Star Wars universe, while the "mind meld" is a thought-sharing ability possessed by Star Trek's Vulcan species, the most well-known representative of which is Mr. Spock.

Sci-fi fans responded to Obama's gaffe by tweeting Wars-Trek mashup jokes:

But I was go…

Ousted Groupon CEO Andrew Mason Worth $228 Million

Posted: 01 Mar 2013 12:08 PM PST

Don't feel too bad for ousted Groupon CEO Andrew Mason: He's worth about $228 million, according to a report.

The Wall Street Journal's Digits blog crunched the numbers and found that Mason's 7.1% stake in combined Class A and Class B shares left him with a nest egg in the hundreds of millions. The $228 million is also in addition to the $31 million the 32-year-old Mason made off the company prior to its IPO, Digits reports.

The bad news: Mason was actually a billionaire when Groupon initially went public in November 2011, but the stock has fallen about 85%. The good news: Since he was fired on Thursday, Mason's fortune has increased by about 7% as investors cheered the decision.

Baseball Back Flip Catch Is YouTube Home Run

Posted: 01 Mar 2013 11:22 AM PST

When you're in the outfield, you've got one job: catch that ball.

North Carolina State center fielder Brett Williams was taking that job pretty seriously even if he had to bend over backwards to make it happen -- literally.

Williams landed a backflip just in time to catch the ball, and even Williams' teammates seemed pretty surprised to see his moves. Looks like he was keeping his gymnastics training under wraps until just the right moment.

Amanda Palmer Wins TED

Posted: 01 Mar 2013 10:40 AM PST

Ask attendees what they most remember about the TED 2013 conference, wrapping up Friday in Long Beach, and here's one of the most frequent answers you'll get: Amanda Palmer.

The former Dresden Dolls singer is the first to admit, as she does in her TED talk, above, that her punk cabaret music isn't for everyone. But Palmer did pluck some universally applicable lessons from her performance art career -- about encountering strangers, dealing with commercially-minded managers, and how to get people to pay for something they can get for nothing.

In short: don't make them, ask them.

The Dresden Doll's first album for a major label was considered a failure by the music business because…
