Who knew PayPal had a sense of humor?

The online payment giant is attempting to create some buzz for its Cash for Registers program with this goofy video, a spoof of Law & Order and other cop shows that features a couple of detectives attempting to answer the question: "Who killed the cash register?"

Best supporting actor role should go to the cash register, which manages to be deadpan throughout

PayPal announced Cash for Registers last month. The program waives credit, debit, check and PayPal processing fees for the rest of the year in exchange for "dusty old cash registers." The initiative is PayPal's latest attempt to compete with others in the space — notably Square Read more...

You may have heard that Google purchased a popular social traffic app called Waze on Tuesday for a reported $1.03 billion. For those who aren't familiar with Waze, we've detailed everything you need to know about the app, below

Like other mapping services, Waze offers voice-guided GPS navigation with turn-by-turn directions. But what's really unique about the app is its social layer: Waze's active community of users share real-time traffic and road information. That means it gives you a heads-up about reported obstacles on your route (e.g. road closures, accidents, police traps), and can then redirect you to your destination Read more...

'The Dark Sorcerer' Demo Shows the Power of PlayStation 4

Quantic Dream, the company behind the video game "Heavy Rain," has made available the entire PlayStation 4 tech demo shown at the E3 conference

Somewhat unusual for demos of this type, the 12-minute long "Dark Sorcerer" not only has a story with a lot of dialogue — it's actually funny

In a blog post, Quantic Dream's David Cage explains how challenging it was to create a tech demo that also works as a comedy

"Making people feel fear is actually fairly simple. Creep up behind someone without a sound and suddenly shout, and you’ll startle them. Moving people by telling a sad story is more difficult, but if you have a moving story and you tell it the right way, you can manage to move your listeners. The problem with comedy is that you need a good story, pacing, and talented actors in order to get even a smile from your audience," he writes Read more...

Burberry, Google Partner to Send Kisses Around the World

Signed and sealed with with a kiss: Burberry and Google put their own spin on the digital postcard with the launch Wednesday of "Burberry Kisses," a visually immersive experience that allows you to send a digital copy of your lip imprint through the world of Google Maps.

Head over to kisses.burberry.com using your desktop Chrome browser or the web browser on your smartphone or tablet. You'll then be prompted to capture a kiss by pressing your lips to the screen — or, on the desktop, by capturing the shape of your lips with a webcam. The longer you press, the bolder the imprint.

Once you've captured your kiss, you can fill out a postcard to send from your town or city to that of a friend. Send a postcard from Newport Beach, Calif., to Tokyo, for example, and you'll catch a glimpse of your letter taking leave from Newport Beach's ocean-facing Cliff Drive, watch it fly across the ocean and descend upon the Tokyo skyline. Its journey will be set to the tune of Burberry Acoustic singer Misty Miller's "Evergreen Love." Read more...

The Twitter chat is one of the best tools for a social media professional to communicate with fans and customers, driving the conversation around the brand. Tuesday's version of existing chat platform Twubs promises to make that job even easier

Twubs, the 5-year-old hashtag platform that aggregates tweets, pics and videos into a branded page, has debuted a free, Twitter API-compliant chat tool.

SEE ALSO: 15 Essential Twitter Chats for Social Media Marketers

The service, which may remind users of Tweetchat, streams tweets from chats to allow hosts to more effectively moderate the conversation. And because it was built within the guidelines of Twitter's new update to its API, it looks like the add-on won't be targeted by the San Francisco-based company. Twitter has taken issue with other third-party piggyback services in the past, like Tweetchat, which was acquired this week by Internet Media Labs, the maker of the social database site oneQube. Whether you're right-handed or left-handed, you've probably stopped noticing how often you rely on your dominant hand. But have you ever stopped to wonder why you only eat with your left or doodle with your right?

SciShow aims to answer that question in today's video titled, "Why Are There Righties & Lefties?" According to host Hank Green, while there is an enormous divide between righties and lefties (90% of humans versus 10% of humans, roughly), hand dominance is unique to humans among primates

And while dogs and cats tend to favor a paw, he adds, the split between righties and lefties is just about even. So why are humans different in this respect? Blame the brain hemisphere. Watch the video above to find out. Read more...

iOS 7 Updates Look a Little Too Familiar to Some Apple Developers

Stephen Orth wondered why Apple didn't use the metadata in photos to better organize pictures in the iPhoto app so, last September, he started developing an app of his own in his spare time to do just that. The result was Photowerks, a 99-cent iPhone app released last month, which lets users sort their photos by date and location.

"I always thought it sounded strange that Apple didn't do that in its photo app," Orth told Mashable in an interview. "I figured it was just a matter of time before they did do it."

As it turned out, it was less than a month before Apple did just that. During the keynote event at its Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday, Apple announced a new option for iPhoto called Moments that automatically organizes a user's photos and videos by — you guessed it — date and location. For Waze, mapping software proved to be a road of riches. The company's nine-year journey culminated on Tuesday, when Google agreed to pay a reported $1.03 billion to acquire the company. That price may have been inflated by a bidding war among Google, Facebook and Apple, according to rumors.

Waze claims around 45 million users, but there's a good chance you're unfamiliar with the company and its app. If you're wondering why the Israeli firm became such a hot property of late, here are a few theories:

1. There aren't that many mapping software companies. Waze didn't have any real competitors. "I'm usually in sectors where there are 14,000 startups," says Scott Rafer, CEO of Lumatic, which provides mapping software for walkers, not drivers. "But in maps, you can't do it lean." Read more...
