Can the Internet Help a Blind Man Keep the Dog That Saved His Life?

A new online crowdfunding campaign is seeking $50,000 to prevent a bittersweet ending to a miraculous story involving a blind man and a seeing eye dog. A seeing eye dog jumped onto subway tracks in attempt to rescue his blind master from an oncoming train on Tuesday.

How does Mashable know what's going viral?
Mashable built a system called Velocity, which scours the social web, collecting lots and lots of data around how people are engaging with published articles. It then pulls all of that data back to Mashable, dumps it into our own predictive engine, and predicts which articles are about to go viral.
