Even if you're not an unpaid intern moonlighting as an aspiring filmmaker, we think you'll find this Boys trailer uproariously funny. It pokes at Girls from every angle, swapping out Lena Dunham and her cohorts for their male counterparts as they take on that other "best city in the world," Los Angeles. Boys was created by a group of Funny or Die mainstays. It hit YouTube on Friday and almost immediately got a nod from the man upstairs, Judd Apatow… More About: Social Media, Watercooler, YouTube, funny or die, hbo, judd apatow, lena dunham, parody |
10 Brits Snubbed from the Olympic Opening Ceremony Posted: 28 Jul 2012 02:40 PM PDT 1. Ricky Gervais as "David Brent"A middle management mentor for athletes. Image courtesy of Wikipedia Click here to view this gallery. London dazzled the world Friday night with opening ceremony festivities filled with whimsy, fireworks and all things British. Oscar-winning director and ceremony designer Danny Boyle created a trippy mashup of pop culture with readings from J.K. Rowling and Kenneth Branagh, along with a towering inflatable Voldemort surrounded by a wave of floating aerialists dressed like Mary Poppins. While Boyle managed to cram in a slew of icons from the host nation into the Olympics kickoff bash, we can't help but notice he missed a few folks who could have added a little something to the event. Twitter Jokester’s ‘Bomb Threat’ Charges Dropped [VIDEO] Posted: 28 Jul 2012 01:52 PM PDT An English man was found guilty of sending a "menacing electronic communication" after joking in a tweet that he would blow up a nearby airport. After the airport had been closed due to a snowstorm, Paul Chambers took to Twitter to vent his frustrations and said that he wanted to "blow it sky high." He was charged under the UK's Communication Act of 2003, which imprisons and fines people for such offenses. However, because the context was not of a serious nature, the judge dropped the charges, stating, "If the person or persons who receive or read it, (the message) or may reasonably be expected to receive, or read it, would brush it aside as a silly… |

Amazon Sales Tax — What it Means for You Posted: 28 Jul 2012 12:54 PM PDT Amazon is backing a bill that would allow states to collect or remit sales tax on items purchased from a small number of large, out-of-state online retailers including Amazon and Overstock. You already pay sales tax when you shop in brick-and-mortar stores, and now you might pay state and local taxes, too, when you shop online. "It's going to feel like a new tax," Jonathan Johnson, president of Overstock.com told Mashable. "It's going to feel like businesses are reaching into the pockets of consumers." The Marketplace Fairness Act, as it's called, is backed by Senators Mike Enzi, Lamar Alexander, and Dick Durbin. Amazon is a proponent of the bill, although the company initially… |

Latest Apple Ads Take a Turn for the Worse Posted: 28 Jul 2012 10:19 AM PDT Mayday
Click here to view this gallery. Apple's latest ads premiered Friday in support of the Olympics. The three commercials show a "Genius," someone you would encounter at your Genius Bar appointment, in other settings where his savvy comes to the rescue. The Genius helps technologically inept acquaintances understand how simple it is to use the product they've recently purchased -- but the humor misses the mark. Instead of showing the simplicity of the operating system, they seem to be emphasizing the ineptitude of those who do not know how to use the machine. While Mac fanboys can often make Apple seem exclusive, these ads play on that ineffectively by furthering that stereotype. This may have been inadvertent, but… More About: 2012 Olympics, Advertising, apple, trending |

From the looks of that pic, probably, but t… More About: Video, justin bieber |
Why the London 2012 Olympics Is the First Real-Time Games Posted: 28 Jul 2012 09:18 AM PDT Whether London 2012 is the first "social" Games has sparked much debate in news media and on the social web. While compelling arguments have been made for both sides, social media's role in the Olympics isn't the most exciting conversation about this year's competition. It's about timing. The London 2012 Olympics are undoubtedly the first real-time Games. It differs from any other Olympic event in how fans and viewers can experience all competitions while they're taking place. Though Friday's Opening Ceremonies weren't broadcast live in the United States, all 32 sporting events will be live streamed for the first time ever. This year's event is a culmination of media consumptio… More About: london 2012, nbc olympics, olympics, trending |
