Defense Contractor To Launch New GPS Security Technology Posted: 18 Sep 2012 01:46 AM PDT Everybody knows about the Global Positioning System (GPS), a ubiquitous, free utility which we rely on everyday. We use it to find directions on our road trips, or to move through the maze of city streets. Airplanes use it to navigate our crowded skies. But, as most people don't know, it also provides timing information. And that's used to control the power grid and banking operations. It's a system that has become part of our life and whose security we never worry about. Experts call it a stealth utility: we don't even think about it until something goes wrong. After researchers at Texas University hijacked a drone fooling its GPS receiver, feeding it wrong coordinates, experts warne… More About: aviation, cybersecurity, drone, gps, technology |

Sound Waves Make Liquids Levitate, Develop Better Drugs [VIDEO] Posted: 17 Sep 2012 09:44 PM PDT Liquids can levitate, thanks to the magic of science. Researchers at Argonne National Laboratory have designed a device, fittingly called acoustic levitator, that uses two speakers that generate sound waves in order to make small droplets of liquids float. The high-power sounds waves, which are imperceptible to the human ear, interfere with each other and create what's called a "standing wave," a place where liquids effectively get trapped and stand still. Researchers hope this experiment will help develop amorphous drugs. These type of drugs require a smaller dose to reach the desired effects, and thus have gentler side effects. Normally, howeve… More About: levitation, popular science |

Three years and 5 million copies later, the original Borderlands is a hit. And now its highly anticipated sequel must live up to fan expectations. Thankfully, Borderlands 2 achieve just that by building on everything that succeeded in the first title, and by addressing the problems brought up by Gearbox's rabid community of reviewers. Borderlands 2 succeeds because it builds on what was already a fantastic shooter. Plus, it beefs up the previously weak story and skill tree elements. ESPN Personality Gets Mad at ‘Onion’ Article He Thought Was Real Posted: 17 Sep 2012 03:55 PM PDT Anyone familiar with the opinionated, loud and -- ahem -- outspoken ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith can imagine how funny it would be to overhear him giving his (fictional) son the ol' birds-and-bees talk. That was precisely the premise of an Onion article that came out Monday, titled "Stephen A. Smith Thinking Son Is Finally Ready For The Sex Argument." In the article, the Onion's tireless scribes created this hypothetical Smith quote, assumedly delivered in Smith's trademark semi-controlled yell: He's at that age where he's starting to hear some things about sex at school, so it's important for me as a parent to corner him on his logical inconsistencies and force him… More About: ESPN, Sports, Watercooler, humor, trending |

The games were notable for their rich mythology and humorous story lines. Three character classes allowed players to approach puzzles and plot points from different angles -- the kind of replayability we take for granted in today's RPGs.
