In some areas of New York and New Jersey thousands of people remain out of their homes in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. All too often, as the news cameras leave, the donations sometimes slow down. How can you help? The virtual travel magazine compiles photos from friends' albums to suggest places to visit and sights to see. The Traverie team is made up of former members from Microsoft's Bing, Yahoo and Tivo, who developed an algorithm to pull travel-specific photos from friends' pages. When Twitter announced its big API changes back in August, one of the most controversial changes was the decision to cap applications that "replicate the core Twitter experience" to 100,000 user tokens (Twitter accounts that can access the app). Hastings (pictured), who spoke with Dow Jones editors, said he was basing that stat on deals in which Netflix and Amazon have competed head to head, according to AllThingsD. Hastings also believes Amazon splits the spending fairly evenly between the U.S. and Europe, where Amazon runs the Lovefilm streaming service. In a patent approved this week by the United States Patent Office Apple was awarded a design patent for "Display screen or portion thereof with animated graphical user interface."
