Common Sense Media, a think tank focused on children's media use, polled 685 public and private elementary and high school classroom teachers on how children's increasing use of television, video games, texting, social networking, music and other forms of media is affecting their performance in school. People don't just turn on their BBQs for Labor Day -- they also switch on their smartphones and tablets, recent data from Google shows. Google says it has seen a consistent spike in mobile searches on holidays over the past year, and an even more pronounced surge in clicks on mobile ads. On Memorial Day this past May, for instance, searches on smartphones and tablets were up 7% and 25%, respectively, compared to an average Monday. Clicks on mobile ads were even more significant, up 9% and 39% respectively. The Halo 4 soundtrack sold 9,000 copies in its first week, putting it at number 50 on the U.S. Billboard 200 charts. Google said Thursday Google Play contains 700,000 Android apps, up from the 675,000 apps it had one month ago. The new count is the same number Apple said last week that its App Store offers.
